The URL and 2 associated ‘video whisperer’ URLs are available for purchase. Their combined value, according to GoDaddy (the hosting site) is a bit over $3000.
Many of my former followers on this site and my blog (TheVideoWhisperer Blog on WordPress), will know the story behind the name. Even if you don’t know the story, you’ve heard of sites like ‘The Dog Whisperer’, or ‘ The Horse Whisperer, etc.’. They generally refer to people who have a special knack at communicating with whatever species is named in the title, i.e. dogs, horses, etc.). So, a ‘video whisperer’ has to be a pretty good videographer to go by that tile.
In my case, as a life-long cameraman/director (50 years, more or less), I eventually went solo in the early 2000s after working with big crews and millions of dollars worth of equipment in the 2 decades before that.
Big crews are, of course, big and noisy. Tons of people, tons of equipment, hours to unload and set up, hours to shoot, and hours to re-load and pack out. All for a few shots at great cost.
As a solo operator I had to do all that by myself and in less time. So my equipment went from ‘big and fancy’ to ‘small, light and high tech’ because the advancement in technology allowed it.
And because I had operated all the fancy expensive stuff, I no longer cared about the equipment. I was a pro operator, so I opted for the least amount of equipment to get the job done. Plus, I was a long time pro cameraman, not an equipment ‘show-off’. I’d done it all. I could care less about the $250,000 camera or $30,000 Steadicam that I used to operate. Now I could do it all on a tiny camera in 4K costing less than $2000.
My philosophy was always ‘the cameraman is invisible’ and my job is to capture what no one in the room knew was ever being captured. Those precious moments, the memorable moments. And when the clients saw the video, they had no idea how I did it, how I managed to capture the essence of the event because they never saw me.
I was ‘The Video Whisperer’.
But the actual genus of ‘The Video Whisperer’ title is a true story told in an Amazon book I wrote called ‘Run ‘n Gun Videography–The Lone Shooter’s Survival Guide’. I’m not going to repeat it here because I hope with this post I will reach some of my old fans who already know the story and will be able to appreciate the value of the URL ‘Video-Whisperer.com’.
In short, this is a ‘pre-announcement’. I’m ready to put it on the auction block.
If any of you can appreciate it’s heritage and value, feel free to contact me directly before I put it up for sale on the GoDaddy auction. Contact me directly at: Video@videowhisperer.com.
(as a small note, the main URL is video-whisperer.com, but if you type videowhisperer.com (without the hypen) it still goes there. And there are two more Video Whisperer URLs I own –in order to control similar fake accounts– that are part of the offering)
P.S. If you are a serious and professional videographer (and not an amateur who gauges him or herself by the ‘quality or expense’ of their equipment as opposed to their ability to actually use it, (in other words a true professional cinematographer/videographer), I will support you in the purchase of these domains (3 total) with an announcement on my YouTube channel of 3000+ followers and 1.25 million views. I realise those are not really impressive stats these days, but the difference in numbers is that I never really promoted the channel or tried to make money with it. Those numbers are ‘old-fashioned views’ from people who wanted to actually watch the often relatively obscure corporate videos that I produced in addition to whatever else I posted over my career ( music videos, camera reviews, weddings, etc.)
